Armenia can do without Turkey, Azerbaijan, ex-minister says

Armenia has development prospects in the region without Turkey and Azerbaijan, and the coming years will prove it, Ara Melikyan, the former foreign minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, told NEWS.am, commenting onթ‚Թ  a statement made by Novruz Mamedov, Head of the Foreign Relations Department, Azerbaijani presidential staff. Mamedov stated Armenia needs the corridor between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan even more than Azerbaijan. Armenia has no development prospects in the region without Turkey and Azerbaijan.

թ§Չ‚-ժ“Mr. Mamedov is erroneous. Armenia has development prospects in the region. This, however, does not mean it is the way it seeks. I think that the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be of benefit to all the sides. Of course, it must not be a biased solution, like the one being prepared in Azerbaijanթ§Չ‚-Չ„§s favor now,թ§Չ‚-Թ Melikyan said. According to him, by means of this statement Azerbaijan is trying to exert pressure on and blackmail the Armenian side. It is a nonsensical policy aimed at forcing the Armenian side into concessions on Nagorno-Karabakh.

As to the possible reopening of the Armenian-Turkish border, Melikyan said թ§Չ‚-ժ“the border will not be reopened in any case.թ§Չ‚-Թ թ§Չ‚-ժ“I do not rule out the Turkish authorities may reopen the border for the sake of NATO maneuvers. However, it is ridiculous to present it as reopening,թ§Չ‚-Թ Melikyan said
