OSCE PA President refutes Azeri misinformation

President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Joao Barroso Soares refuted misinformation spread by Azerbaijani press. թ‚Թ He stated that he does not wish to get drawn into a game of words, commenting on his recent interview on the Karabakh conflict with BBC Radio. Soares noted that those interested in the interview might listen to it carefully to understand that it contains the same statements that he had previously voiced in Yerevan and Baku.

He once again restated the position of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, namely the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be based on the integrity of borders and the right of all people to decide their own destiny.

The OSCE PA President stressed that there is a clear opportunity to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict, adding that only political will is necessary. Joao Soares underscored that both states have political will to resolve the conflict, adding that in the interview he condemned neither Azerbaijan nor Armenia for torpedoing the settlement of the conflict. թ‚Թ

Earlier, the BBC Azeri service spread an interview of Joao Soares, saying Armenia is a major obstacle for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as the Armenian Diaspora is torpedoing the resolution.
