RA President Serzh Sargsyan designated as a թ§Չ-ժmean provocationթ§Չ-Թ an Azerbaijani reconnaissance detachmentթ§Չ-Չ§s attempt to intrude into the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). The Armenian leader is currently on a visit to Saint Petersburg where, on June 17, he held talks on the Karabakh peace process with his Russian and Azerbaijani counterparts.
թ§Չ-ժLate last night I received information on an Azerbaijani armed detachment attempts to intrude into the NKR territory. The attempts were thwarted. The Azerbaijani side incurred losses, unfortunately, we had victims as well,թ§Չ-Թ the President said.թԹ Serzh Sargsyan expressed condolences to the victimsթ§Չ-Չ§ relatives. թ§Չ-ժI realize that it is too difficult to relieve their pain, but it is possible by strengthening the statehood of Armenia and NKR,թ§Չ-Թ Serzh Sargsyan noted.
Provocations are unacceptable, and the recent mean provocation is unacceptable even more, as it came just hours after the meeting held under Russiaթ§Չ-Չ§s mediation, President Sargsyan said. NEWS.am correspondent reports from Saint Petersburg. թ§Չ-ժIt means the mediators should think over the situation, as provocations, going unpunished, not to say unanswered, will lead to such or even worse consequences. It is disrespect for the OSCE Minsk Group as well,թ§Չ-Թ he said.
The President also stressed that the Armenian side has no intention to revise its stance due to the provocation, թ§Չ-ժas we are consciously participating in the talks and keep on pursuing our objective.թ§Չ-Թ
թ§Չ-ժI am confident that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republicթ§Չ-Չ§s independence will be recognized թ§Չ-Չ it is our goal,թ§Չ-Թ he added.
On June 18, at 11:30 p.m. an Azerbaijani reconnaissance detachment intruded into Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan. The trespasser Azerbaijanis could intrude into the north-eastern section of the NKR-Azerbaijani contact line, killing 4 Armenian soldiers and wounding 4 others. The Armenian side took retaliatory measures. The enemy retreated, leaving one soldier killed and ammunition.
June 17, an Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meeting was held in Saint Petersburg.
