YEREVAN, August 21 (Itar-Tass) – Military-political and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Armenia are important components of relationship between the two countries, according to a joint statement made on the results of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s state visit to Armenia.<\/p>\n

Russia and Armenia \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093stated that they considered military-political and military-technical cooperation important components of Russian-Armenian interstate ally relations. The parties confirmed readiness to further rivet much attention to them\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d, the statement says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made a state visit to the Republic of Armenia at the invitation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on August 19-20, 2010.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093During the talks the parties discussed in detail the state of and prospects for the development of strategic partnership between Russia and Armenia based on mutual support. The sides exchanged views on key international and regional problems,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d it says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The results of joint efforts to strengthen Russian-Armenian mutual understanding and trusting, and mutually advantageous cooperation, which meet the interests of the peoples of the two countries, were positively assessed by the heads of state,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the document says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The visit was held on the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and this proved its significance.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093During the visit, the sides showed their wish to further improve constructive foreign political interaction and join efforts within the CIS and the CSTO, as well as within international organisations and forums, including the U.N. and the OSCE, in order to ensure a lasting peace, stability and security. Both parties noted the Russian Federation\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s contribution during its chairmanship of the CIS and the CSTO,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the statement says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan supported an initiative put forth by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to work out ad sign a European security treaty that will be based on the principles of common, equal and indivisible security for all states of the Euro-Atlantic region,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the document stresses.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia confirmed their commitment to the soonest resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exclusively by peaceful means that are acceptable for all sides and lauded the constructive activity of the OSCE Minsk Group in this aspect. The two countries stressed the importance of the principles of non-use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity of states, equality and the rights of nations to self-determination. The principles were sealed in the joint statement of co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group in Almaty on July 17, 2010,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d it says.<\/p>\n

The document notes Russian President Dmitry Medvedev\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093big contribution to searching for political and diplomatic means to solve the problem\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093During the talks the sides noted the special role by the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation that is designed to give a new impetus to stepping up Russian-Armenian economic and investment interaction and developing direct economic ties between regions of the two countries. Much attention was riveted to priority of further development of cooperation in the energy sector, transport, communications, the ore-mining and manufacturing industries, the banking sector, and innovation,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the statement says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The heads of state expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development of humanitarian cooperation and sought to preserve spiritual and cultural contacts between the peoples of the two countries. During the visit, the sides signed inter-governmental agreements on nuclear power engineering, on readmission and on setting up trade missions,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the document says.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093In addition, the sides signed an interstate protocol on making amendments to the agreement on the Russian military base in the territory of Armenia and a memorandum on setting up a service facility for repair of military hardware. The sides agreed to complete the work and sign an agreement on opening the diplomatic missions of both countries,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the document states.<\/p>\n

Medvedev and Sargsyan took part in a ceremony of opening the Hill of Honour memorial in the city of Gyumri to commemorate Russian soldiers killed in 19th century.<\/p>\n

The presidents said they are convinced that the present stage of Russian-Armenian relations \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093open new prospects for ally relationship and intensive strengthening of ties in all fields for the sake of the peoples of the two countries in order to ensure a lasting peace, stability and security in the Caucasus and in the whole world,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d the statement says.<\/p>\n
