Arakelyan, London) of a landmark millennial lecture delivered by the Professor upon the invitation of the quaint English Swedenborg Society<\/em><\/strong> (founded in 1810, London).<\/p>\n

It celebrates Emanuel Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s birthday in 2000.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Few may have heard of the Swedish sage \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s time seems not to have come yet, but it is definitely drawing nearer, thanks to initiatives like the one represented with this Documentary.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 \u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Swedenborg (1688-1772) was controversial and a legend even during his own lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093He was an intellectual brimful of dialectical contradictions, which confused \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c actually \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cdrove mad\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c one of the greatest philosophers of all time, his younger namesake, the German contemporary Immanuel Kant<\/strong> (1724-1804)\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d, states Professor Pilikian (in a personal communication), and continues;<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093Kant initially was absorbed by the narratives of \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cpsychic powers\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 circulating about Swedenborg \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c Kant took them very<\/strong> seriously for a study, especially as he was the great promoter of Plato\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s concept of an \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cinvisible reality\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 (the \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cWorld of Pure Forms<\/em>\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7) hidden behind (and beyond the visible world).\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Kant wanted to be able to \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009csee\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7\/ grasp and ultimately define that world through human Reason \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c hence his unmitigated initial interest in Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s work claiming to have already seen and visited that world (his book titled Heaven and Hell<\/em>)\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb Later, predictably, and understandably, on closer study, the great philosopher became sceptical, and even \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cangry\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7, feeling cheated, mocking the Sage viciously, declaring him a fraud.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Fair enough, one would say.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093But what was unforgivable, ethically reprehensible, and remains hitherto unobserved by historians of philosophy,<\/span><\/strong> is the fact that Kant (who was great on Ethics \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009c<\/span><\/em>Categorical Imperative\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7) shamelessly plagiarized<\/em><\/strong> one of Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s most original scientific speculations (in 1734, in Principia<\/em>; in Latin) referred to as the Nebular Hypothesis<\/span><\/em> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c a cosmological explanation of Cosmogony \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the formation and evolution of the Solar system.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Even Kant\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s book-title two decades later than Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s own book, sounds \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb Swedenborgian; Allgemeine Naturgeschichte und Theorie des Himmels<\/em> = General Natural History and theory of the Heavens<\/em>, 1755.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d<\/p>\n

Although I myself am habituated to the Professor\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s extraordinary discoveries in several fields of knowledge \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c he is perhaps the greatest outside-the-box Thinker of our century \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c<\/p>\n

I am nevertheless shocked by his unraveling of the great German philosopher\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s plagiarism of the Swedish Sage, whose theological innovation seems even greater (in Professor Pilikian\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s eyes) than his scientific speculation. Here are some more seismic eruptions of astral intellectual energy from the Professor\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s pen;<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093One of the great rabid anti-communist conspiracies in the History of the Mind, is the camouflage of the absolute fact that the young<\/strong> Karl Marx was an ardent disciple of \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb Jesus Christ<\/em><\/strong> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c at seventeen \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c while most of today\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s American youth is drunk, drugged and urinating in the streets of their big cities \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the culture of High Capitalism, copy-catted by the European Union youth! \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the young Karl Marx (attending the Trier Gymnasium<\/em> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cGrammar\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 School) wrote in 1835 a profound interpretative essay (for graduation) on St. John\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Gospel<\/em> Ch. 15:1-14<\/em>, titled The Union of the Faithful with Christ<\/em> (The Karl Marx Library, volume V, tr. by Saul K. Padover, McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York 1974, pp. 3-6).\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 It leaves the present reader in no doubt that Marx\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s communist Utopia was no more than Jesus Christ\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s promise of God\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Kingdom on Earth<\/em><\/strong>.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Marx\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s passion for Social Justice is the longing for God\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s absolute<\/strong> Justice against Capitalist corruption, satanic exploitation of the masses, and Nazi enslavement of human labour!<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093No one (not even the Pope) is infallible \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c unfortunately Karl Marx could not appreciate that Martin Luther (1483-1546), like Jesus Christ himself, was one of the greatest revolutionaries of all time<\/strong> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c Luther, I think, changed the world fundamentally for-ever \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c without his movement of Protestant Reformation<\/em>, the masses of Europe would still be crawling like infective worms in the diseased prison of the Vatican Church \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb and the cause of Luther\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s prime-cut revolution? \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c The rampant \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009ccapitalist\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 corruption of the Catholic Church, priests shamelessly selling what were called indulgences, <\/em><\/strong>Pope-signed documents forgiving sins by the wealthy bought for money, when Jesus himself had chased the usurers out of the Jews\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 national Temple<\/em> a thousand years earlier!!\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Alas, alack, the Evangelical Churches of the Bible-belt Texan America even today have become <\/strong>sausage-machines to coin dollars with fraudulent<\/strong> Christianity, like the scam-indulgences of Luther\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s time subsidizing some Crusades. \u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a019th<\/sup> c. Western imperialism abused<\/strong> Jesus Christ\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s faith as a tool to swallow bits of the world \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c most of it by the British, some of it by the proto- then truly Nazi Germans, and Fascist Italians\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb I witnessed recently an \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cAmericanized\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 African preacher in London disgustingly deceiving his black congregation out of their pittance \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb incredibly, he persuaded his flock to part with \u0569\u0082\u0539\u058980.000 in just an hour in the name of Jesus Christ \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb while simultaneously railing and ranting and cursing parishioners who lacked any money-obsession.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 On the other hand, the noble Jehovah Witnesses<\/em> in comparison can proudly announce that they disapprove of even a milder form of money-collection after their service \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c shame and damnation on the American bible-belt bashers and their African copy-cats for perverting through monetarization Jesus Christ\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s religion.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Martin Luther sent the Archbishop of Mainz his anti-capitalist Disputation (Ninety-Five Theses on the Power of Indulgences<\/em>) in 1517 (and tradition has it that he also nailed a copy on the door of All Saints\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 Church<\/em> in Wittenberg), similarly the Jehovah\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Witnesses<\/em> today have inscribed commendably on the signboard of their Kingdom Hall<\/em> (in New Barnet, for example) No Collection<\/em><\/strong> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb I was sickened thirty years ago, when at an Anglican church Service (I think no less than in the Westminster Abbey<\/em>), the Vicar took the Collection money-bags, bowed and kowtowed before them, kissed, blessed and prayed over them for fifteen minutes \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb I never went back to the church, not to suffer yet again such ugly \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cAmerican\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 anti-JesusChrist capitalist pornography.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 It soils my Soul.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 I felt violated recently by the said African money-mad Born-Again preacher in London\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d.<\/p>\n

The Professor\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s scholarly discoveries above shattered my own mind \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb He has a unique and a remarkable skill of weaving together like tapestry the old, the new and the very recent, I should have predicted more would be forthcoming, and built up intellectual strength to grasp them;<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The socio-economic impact of Luther\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u00bb\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7Marxist\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 revolution was innovatively defined not by the \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009ceconomist\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 Karl Marx, alas, but the great Sociologist Max Weber (1864-1920), whose astonishing book Die Protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus (= <\/em>The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, 1904-5), a collection of essays with the general hypothesis that the Protestant mindset<\/strong> with its emphasis on individual enterprise \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the Calvinist version of monastic \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cascetic hard work\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7, thrift and efficiency \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c I would say the Germanic \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cNazi\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 version of \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cNo Sex please, we\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7re British\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c was the fundamental basis of Capitalism, enabling its socio-economic exploitative relations.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 I am of course putting it negatively, what Weber endorsed wholeheartedly.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 But the illiteracy of American Capitalist ideologues is such that even to this day, they have not owned up and\/or glorified Weber\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s anti-Marxist anti-sex theory appropriately\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d, concluded Professor Pilikian.<\/p>\n

\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093Entirely spiritualist, Swedenborg was of course oblivious to socio-economic problems.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 His radical epoch-making religious \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cinsight\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7, still not given due acknowledgment was his re-assembling of the Holy Trinity<\/em><\/strong> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c forced apart by the Catholic Church Vs.<\/em> the Eastern Orthodox Churches \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c into a unitary single deity<\/strong>; however, not of the Hebrew Yahweh\/Jehovah of the Old Testament<\/em>, but in the human person of Jesus Christ, manifesting in the human flesh Jehovah Himself<\/strong>, who thus in total fusion, becomes one with his only begotten son \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c God made into Man, as Jesus Christ himself claimed to being the son of Man!\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Although all the categories of evangelical churches (Methodist, Baptist, Charismatic, Born- Again Christian, Seven-Day Adventist<\/em> etc. including the progenitor of them all, Luther himself) skirted around this New Testament <\/em>concept, but none with the clarity, courage, and distinction of Swedenborg.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Today, ironically, the whole lot of the Protestant- qualified churches owe it unwittingly<\/strong> to Emanuel Swedenborg their doctrinal shift of paradigm <\/strong>from the focus on the Judaic Yahweh to a total focus on Jesus Christ<\/strong> as their divine saviour, sustaining unconditional infinite love for all people of all shapes and colours<\/strong>\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d.<\/p>\n

I had to catch my own breath at the Professor\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s breathless, seamless, radical re-interpretations of the scholarly facts.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 It remains to confirm that at the time of his public lecture for the Swedenborg Society<\/em>, the Professor had head-hunted a massively multi-talented young man Stephen McNeilly<\/strong>, painter\/graphic designer, running the society\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s bookshop.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Supported by Stephen\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s help, Professor Pilikian had organized single-handedly a mini-festival to glorify Swedenborg, thus creating a paradigm and a blue-print for today\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s exciting activities administered by Mr. McNeilly himself, as the most efficient and modernist Executive Director of the Swedenborg Society<\/em>, without whose \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cdiscovery\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 by Professor Hovhanness I. Pilikian, the Society may never have rejuvenated from its natural historical fatigue and eventual fade-out.<\/p>\n

The Professor had invited the Opera-Singer Khatchatur Pilikian (his brother, sometime soloist of RAI<\/em> \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the Italian State Radio and Television<\/em>) to participate with a mini-concert; last but not least, the Professor had commissioned an oil-painting of Swedenborg\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Portrait<\/em> for the occasion, from the Republic of Armenia\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s great painter, Artour Oshakantsi (resident in London), all of which feature in this excellent documentary.<\/p>\n

Although now retired, the Historian of the Society, Mr. Richard Lines, a Council Member and a distinguished solicitor had never wavered in his support of Professor Pilikian\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s choice of Mr. McNeilly as today\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Supremo<\/em> of the Society.\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 Equally supportive against all odds were Mr. John Cunningham (Vice President), Dr. David Lister (Chairman), and Mr. Patrick Johnson (Trustee).<\/p>\n
