{"id":17658,"date":"2016-05-26T16:37:33","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T16:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aaeurop.com\/?p=17658"},"modified":"2016-05-26T16:37:33","modified_gmt":"2016-05-26T16:37:33","slug":"european-parliament-president-turkey-becoming-a-one-man-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aaeurop.com\/?p=17658","title":{"rendered":"European Parliament President: Turkey Becoming A \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cOne-Man State\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The President of the European Parliament\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0has warned that\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Turkey is \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093on the way\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d to becoming a \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093one-man state\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d under the leadership of\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0President\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Recep Tayyip\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Erdo\u0569\u0084\u056a\u0534an (pictured).<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"by-author\"><span class=\"by\">by<\/span> <a class=\"byauthor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/author\/sarkis-zeronian\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarkis Zeronian<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>European Parliament President, Martin Schulz, made the comment in\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0a sharply-worded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksta.de\/politik\/eu-parlamentspraesident--martin-schulz-greift-erdogan-in-scharfen-worten-an-24101296\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> with the German daily newspaper\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0<em>K\u0569\u0083\u0539\u0533lner Stadt-Anzeiger<\/em> (KStA). \u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0During the course of the discussion he referred to recent developments in Turkey as\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0a \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093stunning rejection of European values.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d<\/p>\n<div id=\"EmailOptinM\" class=\"mobile\">\n<div class=\"head\">\n<h2><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gf_browser_safari gform_wrapper\">\n<form action=\"\/newsletter-signup\/\" enctype=\"multipart\/form-data\" method=\"post\">\n<div class=\"gform_body\">\n<ul class=\"gform_fields top_label description_below\">\n<li class=\"gfield gfield_contains_required\">\n<div class=\"ginput_container\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gform_footer top_label\"><input class=\"gform_hidden\" name=\"is_submit_1\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"1\" \/><input class=\"gform_hidden\" name=\"gform_submit\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"1\" \/><input class=\"gform_hidden\" name=\"gform_unique_id\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"\" \/><input class=\"gform_hidden\" name=\"gform_target_page_number_1\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"0\" \/><input class=\"gform_hidden\" name=\"gform_source_page_number_1\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"1\" \/><input name=\"gform_field_values\" type=\"hidden\" value=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Referring to negotiations over Turkey\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s status in relation to the European Union (EU), Mr. Schulz added:<\/p>\n<p>\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093[Chancellor Merkel] and EU leaders have said very clearly to\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0the Turkish president that his policy is inconsistent with fundamental European values, and therefore meaningful negotiations on EU membership for Turkey are not only called into question, but rendered virtually impossible.\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In the more immediate future, Mr. Schulz said President\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Erdo\u0569\u0084\u056a\u0534an\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s recent actions jeopardise the prospect of\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0visa liberalisation for Turkish citizens traveling into the EU\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Schengen zone.<\/p>\n<p>He was not merely referring to the appointment by President\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Erdo\u0569\u0084\u056a\u0534an of his longstanding and faithful ally\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Binali Yildirim as Prime Minister of Turkey yesterday, but also his intransigence over reforms demanded by Europe as the <em>quid pro quo<\/em> for visa free travel.<\/p>\n<p>Not only has President\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0Erdo\u0569\u0084\u056a\u0534an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/london\/2016\/05\/06\/turkeys-erdogan-rebuffs-eu-terrorism-law-reform-going-way-go\/\" target=\"_blank\">refused to make changes<\/a> to Turkish\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0terrorism laws\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0as required by the migrant deal, but he oversaw the introduction of a\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0controversial bill adopted by parliament last week which lifted immunity for dozens of pro-Kurdish and other Members of Parliament. That move has been seen as means of silencing opposition in parliament in a country which has already seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/london\/2016\/03\/08\/turkey-seizes-control-of-news-agency-in-further-crackdown-on-government-critics\/\" target=\"_blank\">persecution<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/london\/2016\/03\/07\/france-says-seizure-of-anti-erdogan-newspaper-by-turkish-authorities-unacceptable\/\">critical<\/a> media outlets.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad adinbody if-mobile\"><\/div>\n<p>Although Mr. Schulz says it must be made clear the EU does not \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093idly accept the monopolisation of power in one man\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s hands,\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d other comments in the interview hint at\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0the barrel over which President Erdo\u0569\u0084\u056a\u0534an has got European leaders faced with an ongoing migrant crisis in their own countries.<\/p>\n<p>Having said the EU would not deal with Turkey unless something changes, Mr. Schulz later backtracked from actually scrapping the EU-Turkey migrant deal, claiming:<\/p>\n<p>\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093The refugees would have to pay the price in the end. We need a good agreement.
