A New Shakespeare Never Seen Before<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oded Be\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7eri<\/em><\/strong> is Israel\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s great intellectual \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c film and theatre-director, author, novelist.<\/p>\n

Excerpts from this major documentary found recently in theatre-archives about his friend and colleague, (Professor) Hovhanness Israel Pilikian\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Fat<\/em><\/strong> Hamlet is Be\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7eri\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s masterpiece \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c a new genre of feature-documentary \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c sui generis<\/u><\/em>; impossible to categorize yet in film-history.<\/p>\n

It re-constructs conceptually<\/em>, virtually and visually a famous production (directed by Hovhanness I. Pilikian) a decade after its original premiere in London\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s West End<\/em> theatre-land over 2 decades ago (Produced by Emmanuel Gounalakis Management<\/em>), it places on global circulation the most innovative and definitive presentation of the world\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s most famous play, Shakespeare\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s Hamlet<\/em><\/strong>, proving Professor Pilikian\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s scholarly contention that Shakespeare himself intended his character of Hamlet to be hugely <\/strong><\/u>fat.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The first performer of the role, the most famous Elizabethan actor, Richard Burbage, was physically overweight.<\/em>\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0\u0569\u0082\u0539\u00a0 And being<\/u><\/em> Fat, because of Henry VIII\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s bulk, was the Elizabethan high fashion<\/em><\/u>,<\/em><\/strong> not the anorexic slim-look, which is entirely<\/strong> modern and out of Shakespeare\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s mind.<\/p>\n

Shakespeare loved fat men<\/u>; Falstaff<\/em><\/strong> (also first enacted by Burbage) impersonates his reasons why \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c they are jolly, loyal, and sensual\/sexual, with presumed larger genitals, contrasted with Shakespeare\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s immense dislike of \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cthin\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 men as exemplified by Julius Caesar\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s comment on \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056a\u0093Yonder Cassius<\/em>\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0539\u009d, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek<\/em> (for example, in the Twelfth Night<\/strong>) \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0080\u009c the name is a pun on \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cdiseased\/infected buttocks\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7, in which form unfortunately Hamlet<\/em> is still frequently performed throughout Britain (including Lawrence Olivier\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s camp Hamlet<\/em>, in the film directed by him).<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the upload of Oded Be\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7eri\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s masterpiece (even in bits) onto the Internet<\/em> shall finally put \u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u056d\u009cthin Hamlets\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7 to bed, and open up new unpredictably radical and revolutionary paths and avenues in Shakespeare Studies<\/em> all over the world, transforming and transmuting the world\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s most famous play into pure intellectual Pilikian-gold.<\/p>\n

Be\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7eri\u0569\u00a7\u0549\u0082-\u0549\u0084\u00a7s feature also boasts the exclusive and only<\/u> tele-visual appearance of two great intellectuals of the British theatre, Irving Wardle<\/em><\/strong>, the number one theatre-critic for many decades of the London Times, <\/em>and the late Hugh Cruttwell<\/em><\/strong>, the most prominent Principal of the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Art<\/em> (abbreviated as the world-famous RADA), married to the late Geraldine McEwan, a superstar of the British theatre.<\/p>\n
