On the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

Appeal to the UN, EU and international community

108 years ago, the first genocide of the 20th century was committed against the Armenian people. Not only one and half million souls were lost in that genocide, but Armenians lost a large part of their historical homeland as well.

The genocide masterminds of Ottoman Turkey went  unpunished for their crimes and the world remained silent and indifferent for decades.

The Turkish genocidal policy continues to this day in different forms, not only by Turkey but also through the leadership of its callow crony, the Aliyev clan in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Starting from the time of the Soviet Union, the Armenians of Nakhichevan were subject to ethnic cleansing and depopulation. The entire Armenian historical heritage in Nakhichevan was destroyed and razed to the ground.

The Armenians who lived in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) region for thousands of years  were persecuted and massacred with the support of Turkey by the newly born state which, by falsifying history, stole the name Azerbaijan from Iran’s historical region by the same name, changed the officially declared name of the newly created area from թ§Չ‚-Թtatarթ§Չ‚-Թ to թ§Չ‚-ժ“azeriթ§Չ‚-Թ in 1936, and started to make territorial demands and historical falsification against all neighboring nations and countries.

During the collapse of the Soviet Union, the massacres of Sumgait, Baku, Kirovabad and Maragha took place in Azerbaijan. The entire Armenian population of Shahumyan and Getashen regions were emptied of their Armenian population.

The Artsakh Armenians, aware of the threat to their existence, courageously fought to secure their right to self-determination and their right to live freely. Artsakh managed to stop the genocidal actions of Azerbaijan in an uneven war, but the conflict did not conclude completely.

In 2020, Azerbaijan unleashed a new war against Armenia and Artsakh.

Azerbaijan achieved victory with the direct participation of Turkey, Pakistan and Syrian terrorists, and with the help of Russian and Israeli weapons.

The genocidal policy continued, this time not only against the people of Artsakh, but also with invasion into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.

Armed with oil, gas, and caviar policy, in the eyes of Europe and the West, under the mask of a fake peacemaker, Azerbaijan continues its policy of ethnic cleansing and depopulation of Artsakh.

From December 12 until today despite calls by the European Union, international organizations and by  the decision of International Court of Justice to immediately unblock the only roadթ§Չ‚-Չ€the Lachin (Berdzor) corridorթ§Չ‚-Չ€connecting Artsakh to Armenia, Azerbaijan continues its genocidal policy of ignoring those demands and  blocking the road and pushing for the depopulation of Artsakh of its Armenians.

Artsakh Armenians have been facing a human catastrophe for 5 months now. The free movement of people is disrupted, people are being forced to leave Artsakh with no guarantee of return. Patients do not receive adequate medical care, grocery stores are empty, children are neglected and vulnerable.

The gas and electricity supplied from Armenia are subject to continuous disruption.

Unfortunately, today the value of gas, oil and caviar are greater than human rights, freedom, and democracy.

Russia is an accomplice in this matter, ignoring its obligations towards its ally Armenia, in cahoots with Turkey and Azerbaijan, with peacekeeping forces on the Armenian and Artsakh fronts, ignores the obligations it consented to enforce in the agreement of November 9, 2020.

From the European Union and international organizations, we expect and demand to remain faithful to the universal values of freedom and democracy they champion, not to abandon the Republic of Armenia, but through sanctions and effective pressure to compel Azerbaijan to respect the agreements reached and implement the decisions of the international court.

The presence of the European Observation Mission in Armenia is welcome and appreciated, but not enough.

The Assembly of Armenians of Europe, as an NGO active in the family of the European Communities ,demands from the international community and institutions to respect and stand up for their adapted principles and stop new genocidal actions.

108 years ago, Armenians were subject to genocide in their homeland in front of the eyes of the world but the perpetrators of the genocide remain unpunished and Turkey still refuses to accept its role in it.

Do not permit the juvenile sibling of the same genocidal state, using oil, gas and caviar, to continue the same genocidal policy after 108 years.
