YEREVAN, August 20 (Itar-Tass) — A mechanism of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) response to crises needs to be improved, President Dmitry Medvedev said after an informal summit of the organization in Yerevan, Armenia, on Friday.
He said it was an item on the Friday agenda. թ§Չ-ժThe lessons of Kyrgyzstan force us to make this mechanism more efficient. There was a need for the will of member countries. We have this will now,թ§Չ-Թ he said. թ§Չ-ժWe have agreed to draft amendments to CSTO founding documents by December. The amendments are necessary for the formation of more efficient institutions, probably, with broader powers.թ§Չ-Թ
թ§Չ-ժCertainly, decisions are made by consensus, but everyone realizes that the organizationթ§Չ-Չ§s response must be more rapid and efficient in certain cases,թ§Չ-Թ he said.
Medvedev said they should study similar practices of NATO, the European Union and the United Nations. թ§Չ-ժWe must analyze these practices. Hopefully, the CSTO Secretariat will make a summary and present it [to member countries],թ§Չ-Թ he said.
